Gaborone, Botswana 26 May 2025 – Air Botswana is pleased to announce the operation of Embraer E175, the 3rd Embraer model acquired to furnish the airline’s expansion strategy into the region. The 88 seater aircraft on-boarded its first customers on the evening of Sunday 25 May 2025 to Maun. The E175 beauty joins its E145 twin siblings, Ukhwi and Matsieng, which had begun operations in May 2025.

“We are delighted to have our Embraer trio now leading our skies! We believe that through these additions to our fleet, we will aptly service our customers flying our regional routes to Windhoek, Cape Town, Durban, Harare and Lusaka as well as to popular domestic destinations. These expanded flight paths represent a strategic investment expected to drive revenues and deliver on our mandate to Batswana as the national airliner,” said Air Botswana CEO Ms. Lulu Rasebotsa.

The E175 model strikes a successful balance between operational efficiency and passenger comfort, which makes it a formidable aircraft most especially for regional airlines, and is commonly a preferred choice for many travelers. The jet is thus ideal for connecting smaller cities to hubs and thus perfectly complementary to Air Botswana’s expanded routes.

More benefits of this aircraft include:

  • Smooth and Speedy: The aircraft is capable of flying faster and more efficiently than some other regional aircrafts, and the engines are designed to minimise noise, contributing to a more pleasant cabin environment.
  • Spacious Cabin: Despite being a regional jet, the E175 offers decent stand-up headroom and a wider cabin than many other regional aircrafts, comparable to some larger narrow-body jets.
  • Generous Seating: Seats are generally considered comfortable with good width and pitch (legroom).
  • High Utilisation: The E175's design allows for quick turnarounds and easy maintenance, leading to higher aircraft utilisation.
  • Trainer Compatibility: The E-Jet family shares a high degree of commonality in fuselage cross-sections and avionics, which simplifies training and operations for airlines that operate multiple E-Jet variants.

Concluded Ms. Rasebotsa, “We are thankful to Batswana and stakeholders across the region for their support, and for our customers choosing us for going their way. We have hit the ground running with our third addition to our fleet and we are now more fit-for-purpose to further provide our customers with the experienced and accommodative service they appoint us for on business and leisure travel.”
