QUICK FACTS ON AIR BOTSWANA’S OPERATIONAL SAFETY STANDARDS

FLEET

Air Botswana is a national carrier that operates and maintains a fleet of four aircraft, inclusive of the Embraer 170 Jet, ATR42-500 and two ATR72-600 advanced turbo propeller aircraft, which operate the domestic and regional scheduled flights. These aircraft allow for safe, and efficient flying, that is suitable for short to medium-haul flights across the airline’s route network.

OPERATIONAL SAFETY

Air Botswana has operated for 33 years and has not had any safety related incidents. Safety is at the heart of its value proposition to its customers, partners in the industry and Staff. Air Botswana is a member of International Air Transport Association and to reassure passenger safety, the airline has been consistently successful at biennial IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), which is the benchmark for global safety management in airlines. The last IOSA audit was carried out in 2021.

ENGINEERING AND MAINTENANCE

Air Botswana has a dedicated inhouse Engineering and Maintenance Division resourced by qualified, accredited and competent Engineering professionals who perform maintenance work meticulously to deliver safe and airworthy aircraft, in line with the set operational standards. The division also has maintenance contracts with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) Specialized tasks are done through approved Maintenance Organizations (AMO) and contracted approved Maintenance Repair Organizations (MROs). Locally, accreditation of AMO and RMO is done by Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana (CAAB), while international accreditation is done by International Air Transport Association Operational Safety (IOSA).

TRAINING

Air Botswana invests heavily in safety, impeccable maintenance and a high level of expertise through training. Experienced Pilots and Engineers go through rigorous training for enhanced technical knowledge and expertise. At Air Botswana, before flying all Pilots undergo a type
rating course from reputable approved training organisations in accordance with the training programme approved by CAAB. Pilots are then subjected to recurrent training and proficiency checks at internationally recognised aviation training organisations. These trainings also conform to the standards and recommended practices of the International Airline Transport Association.
